Rineharts Request To Remove Her Portrait From National Gallery Of Australia

Rinehart's Request to Remove Her Portrait from National Gallery of Australia

Upset at Depiction, Mining Heiress Demands Removal

Mining heiress and billionaire Gina Rinehart has reportedly called for the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) to remove her portrait from display.

Rinehart expressed her unhappiness with the way she was depicted in the portrait, which was created by Aboriginal artist Vincent Namatjira and is currently on display as part of the "Australia in Colour" exhibition.

A second portrait of Rinehart by Namatjira has also emerged, with supporters of the mining magnate expressing their approval of this more flattering depiction.

Rinehart, who is a major financial backer of Australian swimmers, is believed to have spent around A$40 million (US$26.6 million) on the sport.

The NGA has not yet publicly commented on Rinehart's request, and it remains to be seen whether the portrait will be removed.
